JoMall (Meca Mall Wayfinding)

Old Logo:
For our Signs & Symbols class I was given the task to change Mecca Mall’s name, logo and signage system to reinforce the mall’s brand.
The name “Mecca Mall” was based on the street it lies on. The branding is poor and the signage system was not unified.

Mecca Mall is one of the first malls in Jordan and used to represnt luxury and great shopping experiance opend in 2003. However, since then many malls have emerged throughout Amman and Jordan. And so this one needs to be unique enough to attract customers and set it strong again.

Jordan needs a mall that represents it in the best way worldwide and show how far the Kingdom developed, by authenticating the new modern and luxurious Jordan. And also by keeping the Arabic identity.

The mall focuses on attracting medium - high class customers and tourists. Especially those who want to buy high-quality merchandise and be surrounded in a luxurious essence.

It gives out a feeling of pride and gratification, competeing not only locally but regionaly and globaly.

The mall has to have a name that represents the Kingdom of Jordan. So I changed it to “Jordan Mall” or “JoMall”.

I took the location of the mall and the top-view structure of the building. And from it I extracted a shape to work on for the concept.
From the shape I produced the “Kofi” arabic letters and pattern for the logo for the mall. As well as the Arabic pattern.

Colour Palette:

Colours play a vital role in the mall’s design. The purple shades shows authority, strength, wealth, luxury, authenticy, and quality.
While the white is to show purity, positivity, cleaness and good faith that this mall represents.
Typography used for the signage is Helvetica. As it was wide and clear as well as complimenting the signs, and after many tries it was the best choice.
Way-finding symbols:

The way finding symbols for the mall were all extracted from the logo and the font.
Exit signs retained the internationally recognised wide green sign. But getting a Helvetica make-over.

Floor Numbering Design:

The mall as 4 floors, each is represented also from the shape.
